Notice of Meeting:  Nova Scotia Volleyball Officials Association.  Sunday, January 17.  At Sport Nova Scotia building.  10 am to 12 noon.  Agenda will be posted when available.

Volleyball Officiating In Nova Scotia

The Nova Scotia Volleyball Officials Association provides the leadership and direction for the development of officials in Nova Scotia as well as the assignment of for Volleyball Nova Scotia competitions. 
The lead official for the Nova Scotia Volleyball Officials Association carries the title of VNS Regional Officials Chair (ROC).  This individual serves as the primary contact person for officiating matters.  Immediately below is the contact information.

It is hoped that by about mid-January - 2010, one or two Tournament Official Assigners (by geographical consideration) will be named and listed on this page of the website with contact information.  Until this time, Steve Stuart is the contact person regarding assignment as per the protocol listed immediately below.


Protocol For The Assignment Of Officials For VNS Sanctioned Tournaments (As Per VNS Policy)
The tournament organizer e-mails the NS VB Officials Association Assigner and the VNS Office a minimum of two weeks prior to the tournament with the projected start time for first match, start time for last match for each day of the tournament, plus the number of courts to be used.  Not later than Monday of the week of the tournament, the final tournament schedule is to be forwarded to the NS VB Officials Assigner and the VNS office.  Based on this information the assignment of officials for the tournament will be made.

Officials Rates For The 2010 Season

14U/15U            One Official           $15 (2/3 or 2 set)
16U/17U/18U    Two Officials          $15 each for $30 total (2/3 or 2 set)
17U/18U            Two officials          $35 each for $70 total (3/5)
Meals:                $10 Breakfast, $10 Lunch, $15 Supper
Travel:               $0.32 per kilometer

In lieu of the meal per diems listed above, tournament organizers can provide officials with meals from their tournament canteen, as long as the meals provided are of an acceptable standard.
The NS VB Officials Assigner will attempt to minimize the travel costs of officials, bearing in mind that the final assignment of officials is based on the availability of officials.

Dates and Sites For Upcoming Officials Clinics
As of early January, plans are not yet finalized for officiating clinics to be held in different areas of the province during the 2010 season.  As details become available, the information will be posted in this section of the VNS website. 

New And Returning Officials Interested In Being Listed For Assignment
The NS Volleyball Officials Committee welcomes new as well as officials who may have been inactive to become active officials for the 2010 season and beyond.  All that is required is to contact the VNS Regional Officials Chair, Steve Stuart, as per the contact information listed above.
