2010 Tournament Listings

Unfortunately, the calendar section of the VNS website is experiencing problems resulting in the inability to post the details of youth club tournaments.  Until the website issues are resolved I am going to post the tournament information on this portion of the website.  I appreciate your patience in this regard.  Al Scott, Executive Director, VNS

The youth volleyball tournaments that are forwarded to the VNS office for listing become sanctioned tournaments and are subject to VNS policy on the assignment of officials.  Detailed information on this is listed in the "Officials" section of this website, but it may be valuable to repeat that tournament hosts must e-mail the VNS office and the NS VB Officials Association Assigner two weeks prior to the tournament with the start and finish times for each day of the tournament and also the number of courts to be used.  Then not later than Monday of the week of the tournament the complete tournament schedule is to be forwarded to the same two contacts. The NS VB Officials Association will then assign the officials for the tournament.

Youth Club Volleyball

    Volleyball Nova Scotia’s club volleyball season takes place between January and May. Clubs located throughout the province operate male and female teams that train and compete in preparation for provincial and national championship events.

12 & Under Volleyball (Mini / Atomic)

    Volleyball Nova Scotia’s 12 & Under Volleyball is an introductory program that teaches participants the basics of the game in a fun and active environment. 12 & Under Volleyball is an adaptation of traditional volleyball, created to make the game of volleyball fun and enjoyable for children. Adaptations include a smaller court and lower net, fewer people on the court to increase number of contacts with the ball, a special ball that is easier on the arms, and modified rules to increase participants success rate. The focus of 12 & Under volleyball is FUN and learning through participation.

    Each program follows an 8-10 week plan that introduces a ‘skill of the week’ during each session. The skill is introduced then applied to game situations so that participants are not bored with traditional drills. This format allows for less instructional time and maximum activity time. All sessions encourage high levels of activity and interaction with many different children.
