2017-06-12

VNS is happy to announce that Grace Calnan from Cole Harbour, has been chosen for the Canadian Youth National Volleyball Team.

Volleyball Nova Scotia is happy to announce that Grace Calnan from Cole Harbour, N.S. has been chosen for the Canadian Youth National Volleyball Team. Fourteen players from across the country were chosen for the high calibre training and development team with the hopes of creating future national team athletes. “I really like how competitive and passionate everyone is. Everybody's there because they love playing and they want to succeed.” says Grace. “I'm looking forward to training with new people from across Canada and competing against teams from other countries. I can't wait to represent Canada playing the sport that I love.”

Grace was also selected as an alternate for the 2017 Canada Games 18U team. Canada Games Head Coach Jon Elliott had this to say about the progress Grace has made, “Grace is a dedicated volleyball player who has had a very quick learning curve in the past year. She was the only 16 year old to be a part of the Canada Games Training Group, and that experience has prepared her well for this summer with Team Canada. She trained alongside teammates who were 17 and 18, and she had a chance to see how dedicated Nova Scotia's top female athletes are.”

Grace also mentions how she couldn’t have done it without support “I've had really good coaches for the past four years that have helped me develop my skills. My teammates have always pushed me to be my best and made playing the sport super fun. I couldn't do any of this without my parents. They've been so supportive during all of the practices and trips.”

The Youth National Team will be training in Vancouver, B.C. for the majority of July and then will be representing Canada at the US HP Championships in Fort Lauderdale, Florida July 17th-23rd. Congratulations to Grace and good luck this summer!
