IMPORTANT ADDITTIONAL INFORMATION REGARDING COACHING CERTIFICATION:
At each level of the NCCP program, there are 3 components a coach must complete to obtain the required certification:
the Workshop (formerly called Technical Clinic),
Multisport Theory (formerly called Theory and now available both in clinic and on-line formats) Evaluation where the coach submits a portfolio of practice plans, a couple of assignments and is evaluated in practice by an NCCP evaluator.
The NCCP Coaching Certification Standard for both Volleyball Nova Scotia and Volleyball Canada are as follows:
14U/15U/16U: Full NCCP Level 1. Completion of Workshop 1, Multisport Module Part A and Evaluation.
17U/18U: Full NCCP Level 2. Completion of Workshop 1, Multisport Module Part B and Evaluation.
In 2012, Volleyball Nova Scotia adopted a policy for coach certification, which states that by February 15, 2013, each head coach registering with VNS who does not have Full Certification at the required level will have had to complete at least “one new component” towards meeting the full certification standard for the level that they are coaching. For clarity in the new VNS program, progress must be annually be demonstrated from the time of the previous VNS Provincial Championships until January 31 (Feb 15 for this year only) of the new season. The fine is refundable upon completion of the required component by the date of the annual VNS Provincial Championships
Examples of this policy include the following:
Head Coach of a 14U Girls Team with No NCCP Certification. Will have to complete either Workshop 1 or NCCP Theory Part A to demonstrate progress.
Head Coach of a 16U Boys Team that has completed Workshop 1 and NCCP Multisport Theory Part A will have to complete the Level 1 Evaluation to demonstrate progress.
Head Coach of an 18U Girls Team with no NCCP Certification. Same situation as will apply to the 14U Girls Team coach mentioned above. So a coach with no previous certification coaching at the 18U level would have to demonstrate annual progress in each of 6 years to be Full Level 2 Certified.
Head Coach of an 18U Boys Team that has completed Workshop 2. Will have to complete NCCP Multisport Theory Part B to demonstrate progress.
